From my experience, there are two types of people in the world: those who love coming up with ideas, and those who love implementing them. They are very rarely the same person, especially when it comes to the world of small business marketing.
When it comes to the holidays, I’ve already covered a lot about the implementation part. This is helpful for people like me who have a million ideas but need some structure when it comes to executing them. But I know some of you are thinking, “Amber, all these tips are great. But like…what do I actually do for my holiday promotions?”
So for those whose strength is not coming up with ideas, or for those who just want a little extra inspiration, here are 27 ideas for holiday promotions for your small business:
- Flash sale for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and/or Cyber Monday
- Free holiday themed gift with purchase
- Offer a limited edition product or service
- Co-market your promotions with a nearby business or related business (put a flyer at their checkout or include each other’s deal in emails to your customers or on social media)
- Have a portion of sale proceeds go to a charity that aligns with your brand
- Create a curated gift guide for recipients who might appreciate your product or service
- Reach out to influencers in your niche to see how you can collaborate (the more local, the better!)
- Create holiday gift bundles at a discounted price
- Re-name a service with a holiday theme and offer a special discount
- Free shipping promotions or guaranteed delivery if ordered by a certain date
- Offer free gift wrapping or local delivery
- Host an event with exclusive discounts or prizes (shopping party, photo op, customer appreciation, etc.)
- Set up a booth at your local holiday festival (research this early!)
- Run a social media contest with a special giveaway (encourage comments or shares to be entered into a drawing)
- Run a “12 Days of Christmas” promotion and discount a different product each day
- Set up a raffle for customers who purchase during the holiday season
- Check your local Chamber of Commerce and see if there’s opportunity to sponsor or participate in their holiday events/promotions
- Change your website header, product packaging, or mailers to special holiday branding

- Give coupons to customers who purchase before the holiday to be redeemed after the holiday
